Seniors

At Jewish Family Service, our goal is to enable the elderly to remain living independently and with dignity in their own homes. To accomplish this, we offer a mix of professional and volunteer services along with personal services such as transportation, meals and in-home programs.

Services to seniors include:

Case Management

We make sure that our seniors have adequate food, clothing and shelter, and remain in contact with the community.

Caregiver Program

Educational and emotional support is available to caregivers of seniors, be they a spouse, parent or other. Jewish Family Service facilitates an ongoing Caregivers Support Group in conjunction with the National Caregivers Alliance for family members or friends helping with the care of a loved one.

Geriatric Care Management

One of the most difficult realizations is that people we love can no longer care for themselves. Whether planned or sudden, finding proper care can be overwhelming. JFS Geriatric Care Management may be the answer to your problem. This fee-for-service program can assess, plan, coordinate and provide all necessary services so you can sleep at night, whether near or far. Click here for more information.

Hot Kosher Lunch

JFS, in conjunction with The Salvation Army, the Jewish Center for Community Services and the Jewish Home for the Elderly, provides a daily hot kosher lunch, with scheduled activities and van transportation to the lunch site. For the homebound, a kosher meal is delivered by our volunteers in the Bridgeport area.

Information, Consultation and Referrals

Our experienced professional staff is available for information on senior resources, as well as for referrals to community agencies.

Mitzvah Corps/Caring Connections

Isolated individuals are helped in many ways by an Interfaith Volunteer Program that provides:

  • Rides to doctors' appointments
  • Reassurance telephone calls
  • Grocery shopping
  • Friendly visits on a regular basis

Chaplain Service

Our chaplain visits unaffiliated seniors in area hospitals and nursing homes, and meets with homebound individuals who need spiritual support and guidance.

Holocaust Survivors

JFS provides financial and emotional support, as well as help with required forms.

Jewish Singles

Not forgetting the lighter side of life, JFS helps coordinate active groups of Jewish singles who meet to enjoy ongoing social events, lectures, luncheons and holiday celebrations. At present, we sponsor the Blue Stars for people 60+, and the Jewish Singles, a group for age range 40 to 60.
