RESPITE FOR CAREGIVERS: “BUBBE” SITTING (ZAIDES TOO)
Volunteers Needed |
| Jewish
Family Service is looking for volunteers to serve as respite
caregivers for elderly clients living in their own homes. |
 |
These
people all have caregivers with whom they live but there is
a need for some respite/relief for these caregivers. The ideal
volunteer will be a person who is a health professional (active
or retired) or someone who has, his or herself, been a caregiver.
People are needed who are compassionate, caring, patient, and
willing to participate in geriatric training as well as classes
in CPR and First Aid (which will be paid by JFS). Volunteers
should be aware of the fact that this is NOT a hands-on situation;
there will be no bathing, no toileting, no transfers, no transportation,
no feeding and no dispensing of medications. The time commitment
will range from 2-4 hours at a time. This is a unique program
since it will provide service to people living in their own homes. Most
respite care is available only by bringing the client to a facility
outside the home. To volunteer, people are asked to call Myrna
Kosowsky, Volunteer Coordinator, at 203-366-5438. |
| Make a Difference - Volunteer for the Big Buddy Program |
 |
The Big Buddy Program from the Jewish Family Service, Bridgeport matches adult mentors with children ages 6-17 from single-parent families. The Big Buddy’s role is to act as a positive role model and to help a child improve self-esteem and achieve his full potential. In return, the Big Buddy gains personal satisfaction from knowing he has made a difference in a child’s life. If you are interested in volunteering as a Big Buddy, or if you know a child who could benefit from this relationship, please contact Becky Rosen at Jewish Family Service, 366-5438 ext. 22 or e-mail becky@jfsct.org.
